PBA: June Mar's return big on morale says Standhardinger
The top pick of the 2017 Draft has filled the void left by Fajardo thus far, averaging 25.0 points to lead all locals. Standhardinger has scored at least 20 points for the Beermen for 10 straight games.

June Mar Fajardo is literally and figuratively the biggest piece in San Miguel's championship puzzle.

That's why even though the Beermen are loaded with stars, it's quite understandable that the team struggled quite a bit to start the Governors' Cup when the PBA's reigning four-time MVP went down with a shin injury.

Still, in usual San Miguel fashion, the Beermen have climbed out of their early hole and are actually on fire heading into the quarterfinals.

San Miguel has won four straight games heading to the playoffs and their turnaround has been largely because the play of Christian Standhardinger.

The top pick of the 2017 Draft has filled the void left by Fajardo thus far, averaging 25.0 points to lead all locals. Standhardinger has scored at least 20 points for the Beermen for 10 straight games.

For good measure, Standhardinger is also going for 13.2 rebounds per game and is shooting 63 percent from the field.

"You know, I'm surpised myself," Standhardinger said of his terrific performance.

"But Chris [Ross], Alex [Cabagnot], and Marcio [Lassiter], they do a great job of giving me the ball where I need it. I think we're really learning how to play together. A lot of credit goes to those guys," he added.

While he's been doing a great job taking up Fajardo's minutes, Standhardinger is glad to have June Mar back.

But as the Kraken works his way back to his usual self, Standhardinger should have no problem continuing his dominance in the Governors' Cup.

"I mean, he's a very important part of the puzzle but you still see he's just 10 minutes and he's still a little hesitant I think," he said.

"So he's not completely back yet," Standhardinger added of June Mar.

As the Beermen get ready for another title run, having June Mar back is always a plus.

Even though it might take a while for him to be back for real.

"For the morale of the people, it means a lot for us to see June Mar out there again," Standhardinger said.
