PBA: Compton to SMB twin towers: "Pahinga muna kayo"

PBA: Compton to SMB twin towers:
Alaska will have to deal with both June Mar Fajardo and Christian Standhardinger as the 2018 Governors' Cup playoffs finally get underway.

Alaska already beat San Miguel in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup but the Beermen were missing reigning four-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo due to injury.

Aces head coach Alex Compton acknowledged that Fajardo's absence greatly affected the result of that game.

June Mar's presence greatly affects future games as well.

And so about a month ago when Alaska beat San Miguel, Compton had a plea to the then-injured Fajardo.

"Baka next year ka na lang [bumalik]," Compton joked.

Alaska and San Miguel are set to meet again, this time in the playoffs.

The Aces and the Beermen were the first pairing decided in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals and Alaska holds a twice-to-beat edge as the superior seed.

Compton has a plea to the San Miguel star once more.

"You know, I just wanna express great concern for June Mar's body," Compton said. "I think he should rest."

The Alaska mentor is joking again, of course.

Over the last month, Fajardo has returned to San Miguel, playing two games for the Beermen.

While June Mar is still obviously trying to find his mark, one San Miguel player that already found his mark is Christian Standhardinger.

The 2017 first pick dominated for the Beermen while Fajardo was out. Standhardinger leads all locals in scoring and rebounding in the Governors' Cup.

The Fil-German forward also had a streak of 10 straight games with at least 20 points. He finally slowed down in San Miguel's regular-season finale against Meralco.

Compton has something for Standhardinger too.

"Christian has played for like 14 months [straight]. I mean, this guy is important to the national team, pahinga muna kayo," coach Alex said, still joking.

There's truth to Compton saying Standhardinger having an incredible schedule.

Save for dealing with a knee injury in the Commissioner's Cup, Standhardinger has practically played non-stop since mid-2017, suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas, San Miguel, and ABL's Hong Kong Eastern.

Alaska, who lost to San Miguel in the semifinals of the Commissioner's Cup, starts the Governors' Cup playoffs against the Beermen on Nov. 7.
