"Knowing coach Tim [Cone], you beat him once, he's gonna beat you twice. We need to be ready. Forget about Game 1, tapos na yun. Zero-zero again," --- Paul Lee.
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- Magnolia just scored a sensational series-opening win against Ginebra to start Manila Clasico semis in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.
However, in order to win the whole series moving forward, the Hotshots will have to quickly forget about their good Game 1 win.
Despite taking down the reigning two-time champions Saturday at the Ynares Center here, Magnolia guard Paul Lee remains wary of their rivals.
Looking back at their recent history, it's good to be wary on the part of the Hotshots.
"That's nothing," Lee said after a 106-98 win to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.
"Knowing coach Tim [Cone], you beat him once, he's gonna beat you twice. We need to be ready. Forget about Game 1, tapos na yun. Zero-zero again," he added.
Magnolia looked pretty bad to start the series as their vaunted defense gave up 39 first-quarter points, 20 from Justin Brownlee alone.
But that vaunted defense kicked in in the second period and the Hotshots, for once, had better composure than the champion Gin Kings.
"Yun din yung one good thing na nangyari, yung composure ng team. Weather the storm lang naman eh. Sobrang init ni Justin nung first quarter. We just play through it," Lee, who finished with 27 points for Magnolia, said.
"Ganun yung kailangan mo gawin just to beat Ginebra," he added.
After finally snapping a seven-game losing skid at the hands of the Gin Kings, the Hotshots are feeling good right now.
They finally know they can beat this Ginebra team.
"Just keep believing lang. Alam mo yun? Na kaya naming manalo against Ginebra," Lee said.
"Pinupukpok samin na we need to believe na we can win, we can do this as a team. Everyone naniwala, collective effort and end of the game, nakuha namin yung panalo," he added.
