We’re gonna look at it as a knockout – Compton on Game 4
I hope there’s not a single coach on my team and I certainly hope not a single player who feels we’re past Meralco coz we’re not -- Alex Compton

Alaska is now in control of their 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals series against Meralco after clawing back from a game down.

But the battle is far from over and finishing off Meralco won’t be an easy task for the Aces come Saturday.

Mike Harris towed Alaska to a cliffhanger, 104-102, win in Game 3 for a 2-1 Aces lead in the best-of-five series Thursday night in a down-to-the-wire duel that was decided only after the Bolts missed a couple of point-blank shots at the buzzer.

Head coach Alex Compton knows that Game 4 is a do-or-die match for Meralco. The Aces, with a virtual twice-to-beat advantage, won’t treat it anything less also.

“I’m sure they’re gonna look at it as a knockout and we’re gonna look at it as a knockout (game),” said Compton, whose wards escaped another close-shaved game after equalizing in Game 2 in a 100-95 squeaker. “And I expect another fantastic basketball game.”

Alaska is now just a win away from reaching the Finals for the first time since a runner-up finish in the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup against Rain or Shine.

But looking at the way the series’ first three games were decided, it will take Alaska another gritty stand to knock out the Bolts, who for the last two seasons finished second behind three-peat-seeking Barangay Ginebra.

And Meralco is not the kind of team that will easily roll down and die. A fact that the Bolts have proven this conference with six straight victories in must-win situations to advance in the Final Four.

“Our focus has got to be every single possession, what’s in front of you every second, not anything else,” said Compton.

“I hope there’s not a single coach on my team and I certainly hope not a single player who feels we’re past Meralco coz we’re not,” he added. “We’re in a series and we lead 2-1 that’s all it is. So we gotta be great in every possession come Saturday.”
