Cone congratulates Magnolia: 'Outplayed us 'til the end'
Coach Tim Cone was the first to admit that Magnolia was simply too good to their liking, and were in control of the series for the get-go.

ANTIPOLO CITY, RIZAL -- Barangay Ginebra's two-year reign in the PBA Governors' Cup is over and it took a terrific effort down the stretch from rivals Magnolia Hotshots to steal Game 4, 112-108, and the best-of-five series, 3-1.

Coach Tim Cone was the first to admit that Magnolia was simply too good to their liking, and were in control of the series for the get-go.

"They deserved it. They certainly deserved it. They outplayed us from the first minutes of the series all the way through," the winningest coach in league history said after the game.

The crowd darlings and the two-time finalists this season were in a tug-of-war the whole contest, with Ginebra leading by as much as 10, 27-17 in the opening quarter, but that deficit was quickly erased by Magnolia.

Magnolia's largest lead was six, 79-85, but the Barangay answered and took a 106-101 lead with 1:40 left, but he hobbled Romeo Travis took matters into his own hands and led a 11-2 charge to get the win.

Travis played with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, and was not even able to walk in practice yesterday, but scored 21 points in the final frame to get the win.

"They played great. We were on fumes down the stretch. In the fourth quarter, our guys were tired. We had and had spent a lot of energy coming back in the game before," the coach shared.

"And we just lacked legs. And we made a couple of errors down the stretch. And they made free throws, that was it. That's the story."

Cone praised his counterpart Chito Victolero for willing his team to end their reign, but vows that they will remember their early exit moving on.

"Their coach was awesome. He coached a great, great series. We just came up short. We'll move forward, move on from it. Hopefully we'll use it as motivation going to the next conference. But they outplayed us."
