CJ Perez says he idolizes Jayson Castro and Calvin Abueva and he would love it if he could be a combination of those two in the PBA.
CJ Perez is the consensus top pick of the 2018 PBA Draft because he's just that good.
And if the former NCAA Most Valuable Player can actually live up to his plan of merging the styles of two certain players once he makes the jump in the PBA, Perez might as well be the most dangerous no. 1 pick in recent memory.
Perez says he idolizes Jayson Castro and Calvin Abueva and he would love it if he could be a combination of those two in the PBA.
"Pina-practice ko yun eh, maging Calvin at Jayson para mabuo yung Perez," CJ said Friday in the Slam Philippines PBA Draft Suite in Pasig.
"Excited ako na mailabas ko yung talent ko," he added.
Trying to be a combination of the Blur and the Beast is ridiculously tough, they're literally two of the best players in the PBA.
It's also quite a pressure for an incoming rookie like Perez. As if being a top prospect is not quite enough.
Still, CJ embraces the pressure. In fact, it's as if he wants it to come.
"Yun nga yung maganda eh, accept natin yung pressure para ma-motivate tayo mag-workout everyday, gising tayo ng maaga and gawin mo yung mga dapat mo gawin," Perez said.
"Syempre mga idols natin yun eh [Castro and Abueva]. Dapat ini-idolo mo sila kaya kailangan mo gayahin," he added.
