PBA DRAFT: CJ Perez goes to Columbian as the no. 1 pick
The Dyip, who traded away the no. 1 pick last year, did it right this time and selected the consensus top pick in Perez.

For the second straight year, there's no actual surprise when it comes to the no. 1 pick in the PBA Draft.

Columbian made the obvious choice Sunday and picked Lyceum star CJ Perez first overall in the 2018 PBA Draft at Robinsons Place Manila.

The Dyip, who traded away the no. 1 pick last year, did it right this time and selected the consensus top pick in Perez.

Perez has dominated the college basketball scene over the last couple of years, leading the Pirates to two straight NCAA Finals, including an undefeated regular season in 2017.

The explosive forward also won an NCAA Most Valuable Player along the way and his presence gives Columbian instant star power as the franchise looks to move on from its status as the league's unconventional laughingstock.

San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas' Bobby Ray Parks Jr. was the second player taken off the board, landing with the Blackwater Elite, while Northport used its no. 3 pick to take San Beda's Robert Bolick.

UP's Paul Desiderio went no. 4 to NLEX as the first surprise of the day while Trevis Jackson going to Meralco completed the first five picks.

Rain or Shine took Javee Mocon with the 6th pick and J-jay Alejandro with the 8th pick while the Road Warriors used their 7th pick to take Abu Tratter.

Jesper Ayaay went to Alaska at no. 9 and Magnolia drafted Michael Calisaan as the 10th pick. Completing the first round are JP Calvo as the 11 pick to Columbian and Jorey Napoles going to Phoenix with the 12th pick.
