PBA: Tim Cone believes Ginebra can topple San Miguel in PH Cup

With a healthy Ginebra squad, Tim Cone believes his boys could make a run at San Miguel's money.
Brgy. Ginebra head coach Tim Cone believes that his squad has the biggest chance of dethroning the San Miguel Beermen dynasty in the upcoming 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
The reigning four-time All-Filipino titlists of course had a massive retool in the off-season, acquiring guard Terrence Romeo, and forward Ronald Tubid.
After winning the Philippine Cup diadem last May, San Miguel had also since added #1 pick Christian Standhardinger to the lineup, complementing the power play of June Mar Fajardo, the lights-out shooting of Marcio Lassiter and Alex Cabagnot, and the wily veteran Arwind Santos.
However, the winningest coach in league history knows they could match up well with Leo Austria's squad, and had faced them back in the 2017 Philippine Cup Finals, albeit losing that one 4-1.
"It's kind of hard to believe that they can be any weaker than they were last year. They're going to be even stronger. They certainly are the team to beat. There's no doubt. For us, we feel like we match up to them well better than any other team," the 61-year-old mentor said at the PBA Media Day festivities Thursday afternoon.
With a complete lineup, Ginebra could give San Miguel a run for their money, and had proven it in the Commissioner's Cup title series last August, where Cone's side emerged victorious after six hard-fought games.
Cone presented a myriad of factors on how his team could fare against the strongest team on paper the PBA had seen in a while.
"We have the size to match up, we have the defense and our guards to match up. We have a shot. We have a shot at dethroning them. You never know. We got to go back out there and both got to make it into the finals and see what would happen," mentioned Cone.
"Like I said, we have a better shot than anybody else to knock them out. Still that's going to be huge mountain to climb for us to beat San Miguel."
However, if they want to weather the storm of a full-strength Beermen squad, they would have to be healthy, which fortunately is the case for the crowd darlings.
"The key for us is we're healthy, we got Greg and Japeth healthy for the whole year, we feel we can compete for every championship and compete with anybody. It's always been a question about our health and so far so good. We're healthy right now at this moment."
