Ginebra fan Teodoro realizes dream of playing for crowd fave
Teytey Teodoro will let let things run its course.

BOCAUE, BULACAN -- Teytey Teodoro's boyhood dream had finally come true.

From his days as a dependable scorer for the JRU Heavy Bombers and the Batangas City Tanduay Athletics of the MPBL, Teodoro was very much sure on how to heed coach Tim Cone's call if it ever came.

However, he had emotions swirling around his head since he had finally made it to the pros, and was even playing for his favorite team.

But, as a late signee to help bolster Ginebra's backcourt in the absence of sharpshooter Jeff Chan, Teodoro immediately repaid Cone's trust to field him inside.

He had nailed a jumper with 2:09 left in the first quarter to put Ginebra up 24-10, just about 30 seconds in.

"Syempre, sobrang saya. First game namin, di ko talaga inexpect na gagamitin ako early. Nagulat din ako pero ready ako kasi lagi ko sila pinapanood kung ano man yung ginagawang plays so ayun. Thankful ako sobra doon," Teodoro said.

"Siguro, siguro nakatulong [ang pagiging Ginebra fan ko]."

His patented pullup jumper was a reflection of his confidence in himself, a trait that was boosted by his teammates and coaching staff's unwavering support for the rookie.

"Before pa ako ipasok kasi, sinabi nga mga co-players ko tsaka coaching staff. Laruin ko lang yung laro ko. Pag may free, take the shot. Thankful lang ako kasi na-shoot ko yung first shot ko."

What is more surprising is that a former college opponent in Scottie Thompson became an early confidant, helping his fellow NCAA alumnus in learning the ropes of coach Tim Cone's complex triangle offense.

Even though just finishing with four points on 2/4 shooting on top of six rebounds and four assists in his pro debut, he had already drawn comparisons to the Flying A, Johnny Abarrientos, whose size and devil-may-care approach to the game endeared the fans of the 1990s and early aughts.

However, he jus brushed it off and let things run its course.

"Wala na akong comment doon. Bsta ako, sobrang taas na player yun e. Ano lang ako, kumbaga, ready lang ako," shared Teodoro.

"Medyo may pressure kasi nageexpect sya sa akin ng magandang laro. Ngayon, basta quality minutes lang ako," he added.
