Regardlesss of circumstance, the 2017-2018 PBA Rookie of the Year is Phoenix’s Jason Perkins, the fourth pick of the 2017 PBA Draft.

Perkins’ closest challenger in the Rookie of the Year race was former La Salle teammate Jeron Teng.

And while Teng was considered as the true star of those college teams, Perkins proved to be the better Green Archer with one year of PBA experience under his belt.

Top-2 picks Christian Standhardinger and Kiefer Ravena were ineligible for Rookie of the Year with Standhardinger failing to meet the required number of games after sitting out the entire Philippine Cup last season to finish his campaign with Hong Kong Eastern in the ABL.

As for Ravena, Kiefer remains suspended by FIBA due to doping. The NLEX Road Warrior stopped playing in the PBA in the middle of the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup. Before his suspension, the former Ateneo star was leading the ROY race by a mile.
