If there’s one thing about Scottie Thompson, it’s that he’s never satisfied.
The constant need to be better than he was the day prior drives Thompson and all of his hard work has been paying off.
In three seasons with Ginebra, Scottie has three titles and one Finals MVP award. After Sunday, he bagged another major award, winning Most Improved Player.
It’s his second MIP in his career, the other one being from the NCAA as a member of the Perpetual Help Altas.
“Siguro through hard work sa practices, yung mga pinaghihirapan ko nagpe-pay off,” Thompson said.
“Yun naman mentality ko lagi, hard work lang talaga. Bonus na lang yung kung may mga darating na award,” he added.
Despite winning MIP, there’s still more to improve on of course and Scottie has his sights on becoming a more effective offensive weapon for the Gin Kings.
Thompson has showed flashes before but there’s still a lot to work on and he knows that.
“Tina-try ko mas more aggressive sa offense na,” he said.
“So far, medyo hindi pa talaga okay. Sana throughout the seson mas mag-improve pa ako as a player, para makatulong ako sa team,” Thompson added.
After winning MIP in college, Thompson eventually took over as MVP of the league.
It’s fair to think that that is the way for him too in the PBA, although that’s not on of his priorities right now.
“Unang-una, nakaka-pressure at the same time motivated din ako,” he said.
“Sa ngayon focus lang muna ako sa conference, sa year na to, kung ano man mangyayari. Step-by-step lang kung ano pwede ko ma-improve, hindi naman ako nagmamadali,” Scottie added.
