PBA: CJ Perez delivers in his new role as Columbian’s star
Tasked with turning a previously sorry franchise around, there was tremendous pressure on the part of Perez and for his first game, against the Beermen no less, he delivered.

CJ Perez lives up to his billing as the PBA’s top pick.

The league’s no. 1 rookie was instrumental in Columbian taking down the no. 1 team in San Miguel Beer Friday in the 2019 Philippine Cup.

Perez was a beast, scoring 26 points, 24 in the second half, as the Dyip pulled of an early candidate for shocker of the year.

Tasked with turning a previously sorry franchise around, there was tremendous pressure on the part of Perez and for his first game, against the Beermen no less, he delivered.

He certainly passed his first test.

“Sobrang taas ng expectation pero syempre, yung pressure kailangan natin i-handle,” Perez said.

“Sobrang sarap sa feeling pala talaga maglaro sa PBA. Syempre first game, San Miguel pa yung nakalaban namin. They’re the top team and sobrang pleasure and magandang opportunity sakin, para sa Columbian team, na makapag-perform kami ng maayos ngayon,” he added.

Despite naturally feeling the nerves for his first PBA game, it didn’t take long for Perez to figure things out and settle down.

It took him one half to adjust before truly announcing his presence in to the PBA. The Beermen now know.

“Nung unang tapak ko, nung first five, nakaramdam ako ng nerbyos. Pero yung nerbyos na excited lang yun,” Perez said.

“First half kasi, pagdating ko ng dugout tsaka pagtapak ko sa court, na-excite talaga ako masyado eh. Siguro yung second half, nag-relax na ako, go with the flow. Tinanggap ko na ito talaga yung PBA,” he added.
