PBA: 20 points for Yap as ROS drives past NLEX

James Yap started the new year strong with 20 points In a ROS win.
Rain or Shine gets the better of its former coach again.
The Elasto Painters beat Yeng Guiao and the NLEX Road Warriors Friday, taking a 96-87 win in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.
ROS, still without Raymond Almazan, became one of the early winners in the new season’s opening week. Almazan, who infamously went AWOL last season, sat out due to a minor injury.
Five players scored in double figures for the Elasto Painters in a big team win.
James Yap started the new year strong with 20 points while rookie Javee Mocon added 13 points.
“Good start for us,” head coach Caloy Garcia said.
“It’s really difficult playing against NLEX but James stepped up big time,” he added.
ROS outscored the Road Warriors by 13 points in the second period to take control of the game. The Elasto Painters also had a strong start to the third and eventually built an 18-point lead.
The Road Warriors never truly recovered from that huge deficit.
JR Quinahan led NELX with 19 points while Kevin Alas scored 12 in his first game back from an ACL injury. JP Erram, acquired by the Road Warriors in an offseason trade with Blackwater, added 10 points.
