PBA: Northport outlasts NLEX for 2-0 start
After rookie Robert Bolick sizzled in his debut Wednesday, Northport banked on Sean Anthony and Mo Tautuaa to outmuscle the Road Warriors in a physical affair.

This time, it’s Northport’s frontcourt that won the game.

The Batang Pier moved to 2-0 in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, holding off the NLEX Road Warriors, 95-90, Sunday at the Big Dome.

After rookie Robert Bolick sizzled in his debut Wednesday, Northport banked on Sean Anthony and Mo Tautuaa to outmuscle the Road Warriors in a physical affair.

Anthony was an all-around force, finishing with 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and seven steals while Tautuaa served as the anchor, scoring 18 points on top of 11 rebounds.

“Breaks of the game lang. Control namin yung game, and then in the second half, we played good defense,” said head coach Pido Jarencio.

“2-0, ang layo pa. Pero kahit papaano, isang NLEX team, matibay-tibay na team, tinalo natin. That would be a morale booster for the team. Pag nanalo, nawawala lahat ng mga mali,” he added.

Despite the game being marked by 12 ties and 12 lead changes, the Batang Pier maintaned control for almost throughout.

Bolick and Tautuaa hit timely baskets late to keep NLEX at bay while Anthony anchored the defense to help finish things off.

Meanwhile, NLEX dropped to 0-2 for the season despite 19 points from JP Erram. JR Quinahan added 18 markers for the Road Warriors.
