PBA: Phoenix takes over solo first after another OT win
Much like its win vs. Meralco Wednesday, Phoenix needed 53 minutes to pick up a victory with this one pushing the Fuel Masters to solo first early in the All-Filipino with a clean 2-0 mark.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Another overtime, another win for Phoenix.

The Pulse Fuel Masters went extra for the second straight game, this time beating TNT KaTropa, 93-84, in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Saturday at the Ynares Center here.

Much like its win vs. Meralco Wednesday, Phoenix needed 53 minutes to pick up a victory with this one pushing the Fuel Masters to solo first early in the All-Filipino with a clean 2-0 mark.

Tied at 79 with 12 seconds to go, Phoenix dodged a bullet after Michael Miranda missed a wide-open three from the corner for the win.

The Fuel Masters had the chance to also win in regulation with about three seconds to go but Matthew Wright likewise missed from downtown.

Wright would make it up for himself in overtime though, leading Phoenix’s attack to slowly pull away from TNT. He finished with 23 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

Veterans Alex Mallari and Calvin Abueva also stepped up, adding 15 and 14 points respectively while Rookie of the Year Jason Perkins had himself an 11-point, 15-rebound double-double.

“Two OTs in two games. More than the win, it’s the experience that we played a close game. Kasi last conference,  yung mga ganyang game natatalo kami eh,” head coach Louie Alas said.

“This will be a very, very good experience for us,” he added.

As for TNT, the KaTropa wasted another big game from former RoY RR Pogoy.

Pogoy fired a career-high 30 points on top of 12 rebounds but TNT dropped to 0-2, dropping its first two games to start the season for the first time since 2003.

Jayson Castro scored 18 for the KaTropa in a losing effort.
