Sean Anthony dropped 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals in another Northport win.
Surprsingly enough, it was actually Sean Anthony who led the PBA in steals last season.
Anthony averaged an even 2.0 steals per game for Northport last year, which is certainly a surprise considering that Sean is more known for his scoring and versatility on offense.
Still, Anthony has shown that he can be versatile on defense too.
So far in the new PBA season, it appears that Sean is still locked in on the defensive end. In the win by Northport against NLEX in the 2019 Philippine Cup Sunday, Anthony recorded seven steals.
That was on top of 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
“Just being lucky, being in the right place at the right time,” Sean said.
“I do my homework, I know the plays they run and so I guess, being in the right plays and knowing what’s gonna happen [helps] as well,” he added.
Northport head coach Pido Jarencio named Anthony as his team’s most consistent player so far this season.
Pido event went ahead that Sean truly personifies his fabled 3 Ps of Puso, Pride, and Palaban.
“Alam naman natin si Sean, talagang laban kung laban 'yan eh. Yan ang player na may pride, may puso, palaban. Talagang yan ang attitude. Yun ang consistent sa amin ngayon,” Jarencio said.
“Nagugulat nga ako, parang di napapagod eh,” he added.
For his part, Anthony says that he and the rest of the Batang Pier frontcourt are just doing whatever they can to make up for the size disadvantage they have against other teams.
“As a 4 I’m undersized compared to the other 4s, but I think what we lack in size we make up for in speed, heart, hustle... that kind of stuff, the intangibles,” Anthony said.
“I think out bigs are doing alright and we match up with some real tough bigs in Quinahan and Erram and we held our own tonight. Moving forward, we just gotta continue to do that,” he added.
