Commissioner Willie Marcial (center) shared that the proposed complex will contain the PBA's offices, a practice gym, a wellness center, and a chapel.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial bared the league's plans of building a new permanent facility that will house the league's office and a practice gym.
He confirmed the plans revealed by PBA Chairman Ricky Vargas in his speech during the PBA Press Corps Awards Night.
"There is also the major matter of fulfilling our dream. With the PBA at 44 years old, stop renting office space. The board has started talking about building our own home -- the home of the PBA, which I hope we are all excited for," the POC president said.
However, the amiable head of the first professional basketball league in Asia downplayed the idea of making the building as the new home of the league's games.
The league is currently officed in Libis, Quezon City, and before that, stationed at the ULTRA as they made its adjoining arena as its home stadium in the early part of the 1990s.
In the proposed complex will contain the league's offices, a practice gym, a wellness center, and a chapel.
They are considering Quezon City and an unnamed location as prospects, but nothing is set yet in stone since the Board of Governors are still considering several factors before giving the go-signal for construction.
Marcial added that the league is considering the price of the parcel of land and its accessibility before laying the groundwork for a move.
"Meron na kami pero titignan pa rin namin kung magkano. Kesa magrenta tayo, gumawa na tayo ng building na may practice gym. Hindi arena. Yun ang plano," shared Marcial.
"Opisina, fitness gym, pati chapel. Pero titignan natin kung hanggang saan ang ma-eexplore namin."
The good news is once they determine the cost of buying the land, construction of the area may start as early as this year, as per Vargas' target stated to them.
