ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — You could say that Paul Zamar definitely knows his role when it comes to basketball.
When he was with Thailand’s Mono Vampire in the ABL, Zamar was the no. 1 option without a doubt. When he was with Blackwater, he took over the Elite’s second unit.
Now that he’s a member of the San Miguel Beermen, the reigning four-time PBA Philippine Cup champions, Zamar’s role is more of a designated shooter.
He’s fitting in quite nicely. Against the Meralco Bolts Friday, Zamar played almost 19 minutes off the bench and scored 11 points.
“Para sakin acceptance lang naman sa role. Syempre dito sa San Miguel, tanggap ko naman na di ako first second third, or even fourth option,” Zamar said.
“Basta susuportahan ko lang sila June Mar, sila Marcio, sila Arwind. Kung san yung direction nila, dun din ako papunta,” he added.
San Miguel’s core of veterans has helped with his adjustment says Zamar.
With a team full of stars, his role is pretty much defined. He has just has to play to the best of his abilities everytime he steps on the court and Zamar will continue to do that as the season goes.
“Madali naman kasi yung mga veterans yung nagi-initiate ng conversation, kung ano magiging role mo sa team. Syempre from Blackwater to San Miguel, panibagong team, panibagong adjustment para sakin. Pero every day, binibigyan ko ng challenge sarili ko para mag-fit sa team,” Zamar said.
“Finally, oo [settled down]. Pero syempre mahaba pa yung season, I still have a lot of work to do, especially sa defense. But one step at a time, makukuha ko rin,” he added.
