PBA: Back-to-back wins for SMB after shutting down Bolts

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — The 4-time champion Beermen are starting to hit their stride.

San Miguel scored another masterful win in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Friday, this time shutting down Meralco at the Ynares Center here, 105-93.

The champs improved to 2-1 for the season, with the only loss being a shocking upset to Columbian.

"First of all thank God we're able to notch this win. This is a confirmation na we're ready in this conference," head coach Leo Austria said.

"After our game against Ginebra and now Meralco I think slowly we're getting in game shape. I think because of the enormous talent we have, that's the thing that prevails," he added.

Actually down one after the opening period, the Beermen pulled away in the second, outscoring Meralco by 14, 29-15.

Marcio Lassiter was brilliant all game long, dominating his matchup againt Nico Salva to lead all scorers with 25 behind five triples.

Five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo scored 20 on top of 11 rebounds while Christian Standhardinger had a cool 14 points and seven rebounds.

Arwind Santos, Paul Zamar, and Ronal Tubid also finished in double figures for the champs.

The Bolts meanwhile were led by Nard Pinto with 12 points. Meralco dropped to 1-2 for the year.

Meralco 93 - Pinto 13, De Ocampo 12, Amer 11, Hugnatan 8, Quinto 7, Hodge 6, Caram 6, Canaleta 6, Faundo 5, Dillinger 5, Newsome 4, Salva 3, Jackson 3, Tolomia 2, Jamito 2.

Quarters: 26-27, 55-42, 85-66, 105-93.
