PBA: TNT survives NLEX to register first win of the season
TNT lost a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter and had to rely on RR Pogoy and Jayson Castro to hold on for the win.

TNT can register this win, finally.

The KaTropa beat NLEX Wednesday at the Big Dome, 85-80, winning their first game of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

TNT lost a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter and had to rely on RR Pogoy and Jayson Castro to hold on for the win.

Castro first found Pogoy for what seemed like a dagger three, giving TNT an 82-77 lead.

However, Poy Erram would quickly take that triple back on the other end, securing a 2-for-1 for the Road Warriors. Unfortunately for NLEX, it was TNT that would cash in with three free throws from Castro and Pogoy while Bong Galanza missed what would have been a game-tying triple with about four seconds left.

We're improving, we are improving. We're making our shots now. Hopefully consistent kami sa mga ganoon," head coach Bong Ravena said.

"Defensively, tingin ko naman nagi-improve kami in spite of our line-up, alam niyo namang depleted kami, ang daming injuries. So kung ano lang ang meron diyan, kung anong player ang natira, kung sino man yun, we just have to convince them to play hard. Wala kaming choice eh," he added.

Pogoy continued his strong start to the season, leading all scorers with 20 points. The former Rookie of the Year also had seven rebounds.

Don Trollano led four other KaTropa in double figures with 15 points. Brian Heruela and Ryan Reyes finished with 11 apiece as TNT climbed to 1-2.

For the Road Warriors, offense came from Galanza with 19 points though he slowed down in the second half.

A guy who picked things up in the second half was Poy Erram who likewise finished with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and five blocks.

NLEX dropped to 0-3.
