“Lalim ng hininga ko eh, actually nung nakuha namin panalo nakahinga talaga ako ng maluwag,” a relieved Erram said on the win over Columbian, NLEX’s first for the year.
While waiting for Kiefer Ravena, NLEX is still clearly in win-now mode as evidenced by the team giving up two first round picks to acquire Poy Erram from Blackwater just before the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
Three games into the new season, the move didn’t exactly pan out well for the Road Warriors as they started the All-Filipino with three straight losses.
That all changed Sunday as NLEX finally picked up win no. 1, beating Columbian, 107-97.
Erram was a beast, posting 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and five blocks.
“Lalim ng hininga ko eh, actually nung nakuha namin panalo nakahinga talaga ako ng maluwag,” a relieved Erram said on the win.
“Kasi alam naman ng lahat yung pressure na meron sakin kasi ang dami nilang binitawan eh. Ngayon na naka-deliver ako ng panalo and then nag Best Player pa, parang ang sarap sa pakiramdam na kahit papaano,” he added.
NLEX’s win didn’t come without a challenge however as the Road Warriors lost a 31-point lead and almost totally collapsed in the fourth against the upstart Columbian crew.
Erram helped steady the ship in the final quarter, scoring eight points to hold on.
“Syempre masaya kasi first win eh, and first win ko sa NLEX. Sobrang pinaghirapan talaga namin,” Erram said.
“Ang sarap sa pakiramdam kasi nag-contribute lahat and natuwa naman si coach kasi nakikita niya na every game nagi-improve kami,” he added.
While he’s happy with the win, Erram knows that it’s just that, it’s one win and the Road Warriors still sit with a 1-3 record and ways to go before being comfortable in the All-Filipino.
“Pero at the end of the day, it’s just one win, marami pa kaming kailangan gawin at i-improve,” Erram said.
