TNT finally breaks its San Miguel Beer dry spell.

The KaTropa smashed the reigning four-time champions Sunday, scoring a convincing 104-93 win in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup at the Big Dome.

The flagship MVP franchise beat the flagship SMC franchise for the first time in two years, TNT’s last win over the Beermen was during Game 4 of the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

TNT lost nine straight games to San Miguel after that final victory.

“There's nothing special. Ano lang namin is to double effort kami. We played really, really hard. We really, really want this game so bad,” head coach Bong Ravena said.

“Siyempre kailangan din namin i-prove na kaya din namin sila. By working hard as a team on both ends of the floor. Kita naman natin yung depensa, our shots are falling, so yun lang,” he added.

It was a back-and-forth game all throughout between the PBA’s only two Perpetual champions but it was the KaTropa that hit the big shots in the fourth period that were crucial for the victory.

Jayson Castro took over, scoring eight points in the final quarter to finish with 24 points. The Blur also had 11 assists, five rebounds, four steals, and went a perfect 9-of-9 inside the arc.

Backing him up was Troy Rosario who returned from injury to play his first game of the year. Rosario fired 22 points, 12 in the second quarter, on top of five rebounds. He hit six three-pointers.

The win pushed TNT to 2-2 after two early losses. San Miguel also now have a 2-2 mark after the Beermen lost their two-game winning streak.

Three players scored 20 of more for the Beermen led by Christian Standhardinger’s 24. Von Pessumal fired a career-high 23 while five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo was good for 22 points.
