“I don’t want to be described that way. To see someone describe our team that way, I feel that doesn’t describe us, that doesn’t describe me,” — Mike Digregorio.
Blackwater didn’t exactly have a great start to the 2019 PBA season.
The Elite lost their first two games in the Philippine Cup sure but their play wasn’t necessarily “pathetic.”
Lead guard Mike Digregorio certainly thinks not.
Digregorio said that an article critical to Blackwater’s winless start to the season lit a fire under him and motivated him to come out with a little extra Wednesday against Rain or Shine.
That motivation proved to be beneficial and Digregorio shot 70 percent from deep to lead all scorers with 27 points.
More importantly, he led the Elite to their first win of the year.
“I use a lot of things as motivation, I always have a chip on my shoulder to try and prove something,” Digregorio said.
“I read an article yesterday that was actually saying something about our first two games, the way we played was pathetic. The way they phrased things, it kinda put a lot in the fire,” he added.

As Blackwater continues to prove itself as a contender in the PBA, Digregorio says he doesn’t want his team being labeled as “pathetic.”
He, along with the rest of his team, maintain that winning is of utmost priority.
“I don’t want to be described that way. To see someone describe our team that way, I feel that doesn’t describe us, that doesn’t describe me,” Digregorio said.
“We’re winners. My mindset is I’m coming to win, I feel like I’m a winner. I have a winner’s mentality,” he added.
