PBA: Blackwater's torrid shooting in Q3 dooms ROS
Up 53-46 at the half, the squad surrendered a 26-9 run in the first six minutes of the third quarter and suddenly trailed 72-62 by the end of the period.

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters coach Caloy Garcia blames a horrendous start to the third quarter, which became the difference in their loss against the Blackwater Elite Wednesday evening.

Up 53-46 at the half, the squad surrendered a 26-9 run in the first six minutes of the third quarter and suddenly trailed 72-62 by the end of the period.

Blackwater was an inspired team determined to grab their first victory, and the previously undefeated Rain or Shine became its hapless victim, ultimately losing 111-99 for their first taste of defeat in the young 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

"Coming out of the dugout, we’re up and then suddenly, we started turning the ball over. We did not play defense. That’s what we’re gonna be looking out for [Thursday at practice]," Garcia said.

The coach also pointed out his counterpart Bong Ramos' squad was the more aggressive team on both ends of the floor, which the former lamented.

Forward Raymond Almazan also made his season debut on a minutes restriction, scoring just a field goal in three minutes inside the floor.

Garcia explained that he doesn't want to aggravate the athletic big's injuries, so that he may be a key contributor for a possible playoff run this conference.

"Today, ginamit ko lang saglit para at least he can get the feel of the game. i dont wanna gamble on him in the second half kasi syempre, at the end of the day, we want to be healthy throughout the season," said Garcia.

"I hope he feels good and we just have to see want went wrong through this game."

As the face four-time defending champs San Miguel in their next outing Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, the coach expects all guns blazing from the Beermen, anticipating the return of gunners Terrence Romeo and Alex Cabagnot.

Garcia knows his hands will be full, and can only do so much in preparing for the juggernauts.

"They will be ready on Friday. We just have to prepare doubly harder. alam naman natin SMB kapag galing sa talo, yung next game nila, usually blowout. So, we just have to find ways to stick with them until the end."
