PBA: No. 1 Phoenix keeps unbeaten streak

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Phoenix’s incredible fire still burns.

The no. 1 ranked Pulse Fuel Masters kept their unbeated streak in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, torching Blackwater, 114-95, Friday at the Ynares Center here.

Phoenix won a fourth straight game in the All-Filipino for a clean 4-0 mark. It’s the best start in franchise history.

The Fuel Masters unloaded a 14-0 run right in the first quarter, opening up a 31-9 lead. Phoenix was never threatened after that blistering show of force.

“Di namin ine-expect yung ganitong outcome ng game,” head coach Louie Alas said.

“Actually worried nga kami, kasi right after ROS game, flawless yung depensa ng Blackwater. Nagkaroon lang kami ng kaunting adjustment offensively,” he added.

Calvin Abueva led seven Phoenix players in double figures with 22 points. The Beast also had 14 rebounds for good measure.

Matthew Wright submitted another fine all-around performance with 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Reigning Rookie of the Year Jason Perkins posted 15 points.

The Elite got a career-high 24 points from rookie Abu Tratter but Blackwater dropped to 1-3 for the season.
