ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — James Yap is back.
Well, not that he ever left but the James Yap of old, the one that was a super scorer, appears to be making a comeback now for Rain or Shine in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
Through four games, Yap is going for 17.5 points, scoring at least 20 or more in three outings.
Friday at the Ynares Center here, James fired 21, leading ROS to a huge victory over four-time champion San Miguel Beer.
Rain or Shine’s staff, led by head coach Caloy Garcia, has made a more conscious effort to involve Yap more this time around and that confidence has reinvigorated the former two-time MVP.
“Syempre sobrang malaking factor yun, kumbaga ang iisipin mo may go signal ka from coach,” Yap said.
“Tira ka lang. Magmintis ka ng dalawang straight, alam mo nasa loob ka, may chance ka bumawi. Malaking bagay yung kumpiyansa,” he added.
Yap has been on point lately and Yap maintains he’s just ready to go if needed to.
All the work he’s put into his body being in top shape has been paying off so far and he shows no signs of slowing down just yet.
“Sinabihan naman ako na ready ako this conference,” Yap said.
“Nagpapa-condition talaga ako, sabi ko nga ready lang,” he added.
