Lost in the hype of more notable rookies so far has been Blackwater’s Abu Tratter.
The no. 7 pick from the 2018 PBA Draft has emerged as one of the more solid freshmen so far and is clearly the best rookie on the part of the Elite this season.
In four games for Blackwater, Abu is going for 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, including a career-high 24 points Friday at the Ynares Center. That’s solid numbers considering Tratter basically inherited Poy Erram’s slot for the Elite.
The big test for the towering rookie now comes next as Blackwater is set to have San Miguel and Ginebra back-to-back. That means Abu will be matched up against June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter.
Christian Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar are also in the mix.
“Being able to go up against them [June Mar and Greg] is something I look forward to,” Tratter told ABS-CBN Sports.
“I don’t expect anything, but I expect things to go pan out the way I worked for. Just feeding off of previous games and the hard work that I put in practice. I’m continously learning, it’s my first year here, and everything is just a learning process,” he added.
As Abu continues to impress in his first handful of games in the PBA, he says it’s all about winning.
Blackwater is currently 1-3 after four games.
“It feels good, but at the same time I’m not really looking to be a big stat kind of guy,” Tratter said.
“I’m looking to win games, this is such a young franchise, such a young group. I’m looking forward to continously improve. I’m happy with my performance on the court and I just wanna learn,” he added.
