PBA: Alas hopes for the best with latest knee injury scare
“Initial diagnosis seems okay naman, praying for the best,” Alas said.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — In Game 5 of the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals, Kevin Alas tore his right ACL at the Ynares Center here.

It would take him almost a full year to come back.

Five games into his comeback season, Alas would hurt his right knee again Saturday, still at the Ynares Center here.

It’s a cruel coincidence, really.

Late in the fourth quarter of NLEX’s eventual win over Meralco in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, Alas landed from a rebound play and almost immediately went down, holding his knee in pain.

He would later pull himself back up and attempt to continue playing but he would be subbed out. Alas will go straight to the hospital for an MRI.

“Initial diagnosis seems okay naman, praying for the best,” Alas said.

“May pain pero nung pagbalik ko nung rehab may pain pa naman eh, I think it’s normal. Di ko pa masabi ngayon,” he added.

Returning to the venue where he suffered the most devastating injury of his career, Alas didn’t deny that he had to deal with the mental aspect of it all.

And with this latest injury scare, he hopes that results would differ from last year and he doesn’t have to miss a significant amount of time.

“Siguro partly takot na rin kasi pagdating ko sa venue, dito ako na-ACL nung Game 5 eh, una kong pinuntahan yung spot na na-ACL ako. Siguro para rin mawala yung fear ko about it. Wala naman. Pero at the back of my head andun pa rin siguro yung takot,” Alas said.

“No swelling naman. But just making sure, direcho ako MRI,” he added.
