The win pushed the Road Warriors to a 2-3 record with back-to-back wins. The Bolts dropped to 2-3 as well.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Now that was a lights out game.

NLEX survived a brief power outage and a fighting Meralco side Saturday at te Ynares Center here, picking up an 87-83 victory in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

Lights went out with 2:57 to go in the fourth with the Road Warriors holding an 81-78 lead.

After play resumed, Meralco ended up forcing an 83-all tie but NLEX wound up taking a two-point lead after two split trips from the free throw line.

With the Bolts looking to force another tie with 11 seconds to go, coach Norman Black drew a beautiful play for Ranidel De Ocampo in the baseline but he was denied at the apex by JP Erram, the PBA Press Corps’ Defensive Player of the Year.

NLEX then sealed the win with a perfect trip to the stripe.

The win pushed the Road Warriors to a 2-3 record with back-to-back wins. The Bolts dropped to 2-3 as well.

“We went through the eye of the needle, we had a really hard-earned win today,” head coach Yeng Guiao said.

“I look at it as a positive sign for the team, winning in different ways. Maganda rin na character-building experience yun,” he added.

JR Quinahan led NLEX with 16 points while Bong Galanza was good for 14. 

Kevin Alas and Poy Erram dropped 12 each for the Road Warriors in the win.

Over at Meralco, Jared Dillinger and Chris Newsome posted 16 and 15 points respectively.

Meralco 83 - Dillinger 16, Newsome 15, Hugnatan 14, De Ocampo 8, Caram 8, Amer 7, Hodge 6, Canaleta 3, Faundo 2, Salva 2, Jackson 2, Pinto 0, Tolomia 0.

Quarters: 21-22, 34-37, 61-64, 87-83.
