After scoring a career-high 17 points in an 80-75 overtime loss against the TNT KaTropa, Robbie Herndon looks to show more of his scoring prowess for the Magnolia Hotshots.
Herndon was the team's leading scorer on a cool 6 out of 8 shooting clip, including hitting some outrageous shots from way beyond.
The guard seemed to turn back the time, just like the man people saw, the go-to guy and bonafide scorer for Victoria Sports, Wangs Basketball, and Marinerong Pilipino in the PBA D-League.
"In the D-League, pretty much my only job was to score. And score a lot. Here, it's different. We have a lot of scorers on the team, and this is more of a defensive system so we focus on defense first and you know, we let the offense come to us," the Filipino-American said.
He added that he is merely trying to continue what he had started in the D-League, but does not want to regress in any way or hamper the team's offensive flow.
Even though Magnolia just made their season debut in contrast to TNT's sixth game in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, Herndon was proud of his team's effort as they went toe-to-toe with TNT until the final buzzer.
"...[I] think we came strong and all right for out first game back. I think it will carry over and I think in the next couple of games we'll be able to close out," he said.
Being one of the more dependable scorers in the Governors' Cup Finals series victory last December, Herndon looks to become more consistent in his role for coach Chito Victolero.
For the reigning Coach of the Year, he was thankful that the second-year player took the scoring cudgels from Paul Lee, who aggravated a right thumb injury during the second quarter.
"Siya yung maganda yung opensa sa amin. Medyo sinalo niya si Paul because hindi ko na magamit si Paul noong second half. Maganda yung step up game ni Herndon. Sana magtuloy tuloy siya," shared Victolero.
