ďYun nga, sana ito na yung win na magda-dala sa amin kung saan namin gusto pumunta, which is yung playoffs,Ē Castro said.
TNT’s big win over defending four-time champion San Miguel should have been the team’s conference-turning victory in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
But then the KaTropa stunk the joint in the follow up, wasting a 21-point lead to Meralco for an embarrassing loss.
Fortunately, TNT has recovered in time, beating another champion team in the San Miguel Group.
However, whether or not the KaTropa’s overtime win over Magnolia Sunday becomes the team’s conference-turning victory remains to be seen.
Jayson Castro though, hopes its the one.
“Yun nga, sana ito na yung win na magda-dala sa amin kung saan namin gusto pumunta, which is yung playoffs,” Castro said.
“Sobrang malaking panalo na naman para sa amin, at least before kami mag-break, dagdag sa confidence namin,” he added.
Aside from trying to re-estalish itself as a contender this season, TNT has slowly forged a new identity in 2019.
At least through six games, gone are the days when the KaTropa would engage other teams in shootouts and instead, games involving TNT have become defensive struggles.
TNT still has a handful of players more than capable of exploding and scoring in bunches but the KaTropa have embraced a strong defensive mindset with Mark Dickel leading the charge.
“Yun yung mentality namin ngayon,” Castro said on TNT focusing on defense.
“Defense first, tsaka na namin problemahin ang opensa kasi marami naman makaka-shoot samin. Tina-try namin ibaba talaga yung score,” he added.
With TNT an even 3-3 so far, Castro welcomes the three-week break for his crew.
It should help as they prepare to make a run in the tournament’s second half.
“Maganda lang ngayon kasi may 3-week break kami. So lahat ng mga positive na ginawa na namin, tingnan namin sa film,” he said.
“At the same time, may time kami para mag-prepare talaga,” Castro added.
