PBA: Victolero happy to see defense hold up despite loss

“Sumalo lang sa amin yung depensa. Pero habang tumatagal yung laro, makukuha namin yung timing namin offensively,” the reigning PBA Coach of the Year said.
The two teams that played in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals made their respective 2019 PBA Philippine Cup debuts Sunday.
Both of them lost.
However, one performed better than the other based on the final score alone and that was most definitely Magnolia, who lost to TNT in overtime.
Head coach Chito Victolero is hardly worried considering his team’s signature defense remained stout despite suffering from a supposed title hangover.
“Natural lang naman yan but maganda naman yung mindset nila ngayon eh. Breaks of the game lang talaga. Maganda yung nilaro namin defensively, but yung offense, makikita mo naman na wala pa kami sa timing,” Victolero said.
“Sumalo lang sa amin yung depensa. Pero habang tumatagal yung laro, makukuha namin yung timing namin offensively,” the reigning PBA Coach of the Year added.
One thing that Victolero saw that is definitely lacking for the Hotshots is conditioning, which is also natural considering the team played their first official game since December.
That will come in time and with that, Magnolia’s offense should come with it as well.
“Makikita mo naman talaga mabilis mapagod eh. Halos mga 3 minutes, 4 minutes lang, mabilis ako magpalit ng tao. Talagang wala pa,” Victolero said.
“Yung depensa talaga ang bumuhay sa amin eh pero offensively, makikita mo talaga wala sa timing. Yung halos lahat ng execution namin, medyo nagmamadali e. But of course, next few games makukuha na namin yun,” he added.
