PBA: “Happy-go-lucky” Beermen know pressure of title defense

The Beermen may tend to look carefree at times, especially when they’re isolated as individual characters, but it doesn’t mean that they’re not serious about their craft.
San Miguel Beer is not only loaded with talented players, it’s also loaded with a ton of characters.
As Alex Cabagnot describes it, the Beermen are “happy-go-lucky guys.”
And so, as the Beermen went through an unusual two-game losing skid in the Philippine Cup, Wednesday’s game against Blackwater sure felt like a must-win for San Miguel.
Of course, the reigning four-time champions delivered.
That’s because the Beermen may be a bunch of “happy-go-lucky guys” but you don’t win four straight All-Filipino titles without having that sense of urgency to win each and every game.
“You know with San Miguel, I know we’re happy-go-lucky pero there’s always a sense of urgency naman talaga,” Cabagnot said.
“I know we won today but the urgency to continue our streak, to strive for five-peat, there’s always urgency,” he added,
Cabagnot says the Beermen may tend to look carefree at times, especially when they’re isolated as individual characters, but it doesn’t mean that they’re not serious about their craft.
When San Miguel comes together as a team, it’s pretty hard not to see that the Beermen are anything but carefree.
“Deep down, there’s really that sense of urgency,” Cabagnot said.
“Parang kino-cover up lang namin ng konti, we smile and do that but we know what the definite pressures are. Even if we weren’t 2-3, now we were 2-3 it’s even more magnified,” he added.
