PBA: Pride carries champion Beermen to much-needed win
More than its overwhelming talent, it was San Miguel’s pride as the defending four-time champion that carried the team to victory.

After a rare two-game losing skid in the Philippine Cup, San Miguel made sure to do something rather quickly.

The Beermen avoided a third straight defeat Wednesday, getting back on the winning side in convincing fashion by pounding Blackwater.

More than its overwhelming talent, it was San Miguel’s pride as the defending four-time champion that carried the team to victory.

“I'm happy to see the players, yung pride nila nag-prevail,” head coach Leo Austria said.

“There's a lot of effort, and every player, kahit yung last player na pinasok namin, kahit decided na yung game, nandoon pa rin yung effort. And that's the question na gusto naming masagot dito sa team namin, yung effort, kung paano namin ibibigay,” he added.

Whether or not the Beermen show up with enough effort on game days seem to be the only question San Miguel needs answered in the Philippine Cup as they go for a fifth straight All-Filipino title.

When the Beermen play below their standards, they’re certainly ripe for an upset.

But when San Miguel turns it on, the team is pretty much impossible to stop.

“We all know that our team is very abundant on talent,” Austria said.

“But talent is useless kung walang effort na papakita. Tonight, I'm so happy for them,” he added.
