PBA: NLEX dedicates big Phoenix game for injured Alas
NLEX plays a game Friday at the MOA Arena against undefeated Phoenix and the team will dedicate the contest to their fallen Road Warrior.

After a grueling recovery from his first ACL tear last year, NLEX’s Kevin Alas is not quite done dealing with his devastating knee injury.

Five games into his comeback campaign, Alas re-injured his right knee last week.

Worse, it happened at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, the same site of his first ACL tear.

With a new injury, the NLEX guard is set to miss practically miss the whole PBA season again.

It’s a tough pill to swallow for Alas and NLEX as a whole.

“We are all saddened, we are all devastated by what happened. We are all praying for Kevin and we are supporting him all the way. We will be patient with him. We will wait for him until he gets back,” NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao said.

“And we know he’s a strong boy, he has a strong personality. We know that he can come out of this. So we will just keep supporting him. We will be patient and we can only offer our prayers and encouragement, but lahat kami nalungkot, hindi lang yung players, coaching staff, management, even our families are devastated by what happened because Kevin is like family to us,” he added.

Alas is set to undergo another knee surgery Saturday, a week after his second injury.

NLEX plays a game Friday at the MOA Arena against undefeated Phoenix and the team will dedicate the contest to their fallen Road Warrior.

“We will just have to be strong for him. Kailangan maging malakas kami and we will also dedicate our Friday game to him for the contributions he’s made, for the effort he’s made, for his leadership of this team, of our team,” Guiao said

“So for the meantime, that’s the best we can do,” he added.

Alas first tore his ACL in Game 5 of the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against Magnolia.

He was able to get himsef healthy in time to join NLEX to start this current season.

Unfortunately, just as he was getting his rhythm back, Alas went down again after five games. The Road Warriors are currently 2-3 entering Friday.
