It was Yap that handed ROS the lead for good as his uber-clutch stepback triple with 2:50 to go pushed the Elasto Painters ahead on Northport, 102-100.
Yep, the James Yap revival tour is in full swing.
Yap had another... well, big game Friday, helping the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters improve to 5-1 in the ongoing 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
James’ effective scoring continued, firing 19 points on 60 percent shooting from the field.
More importantly, it was Yap who handed ROS the lead for good as his uber-clutch stepback triple with 2:50 to go pushed the Elasto Painters ahead on Northport, 102-100.
That booming three was part of Rain or Shine’s 10-0 closing run to steal the win.
“Normal lang, normal lang yun. Di, joke, joke lang,” Yap said with a laugh on his crucial trey.
“Well, nagkaroon ng chance na napunta sa akin yung bola so tinira natin, pumasok. Ganoon lang naman ang basketball,” he added, turning serious.
It’s no secret that Yap has been on-point this season. He’s mentioned it multiple times before.
But even as Yap is standing out, the true key to Rain or Shine’s early success has been the team’s incredible balance.
Against the Batang Pier alone, six players scored in double figures. That’s been the case for the majority of this season.
“Nagtulungan kami talaga. Kasi hindi pwedeng isang tao lang ang pwedeng magpanalo, lahat kami,” Yap said.
“Siguro yung sistema rin, talagang umiikot yung bola, lahat nakaka-tanggap ng bola so malaking bagay yun kapag nakaka-tanggap ka ng bola, nagkaka-kumpiyansa ka eh. Kaya siguro ganoon yung scoring namin ngayon, halos pantay-pantay,” Yap added.
