PBA: James Yap wants ROS title for his birthday
James' birthday is not until the 15th though and he says the actual birthday gift he wants is a championship with Rain or Shine.

By completing a game-winning three-point play against his former team, James Yap practically gave himself a pretty nice birthday gift two days in advance.

Down two with 6.1 seconds to go, Yap received the inbound pass off a Rain or Shine timeout and never let go off the basketball.

He took on Rafi Reavis and Rome dela Rosa, arguably Magnolia's two best defenders, and duped them both.

Yap then rised for his signature one-hand floater. He made it of course and he fished for a foul too. James made the bonus free throw and Rain or Shine won.

"Ito yung isa sa mga magandang gift: 7-1, No. 1 kami ngayon and magbe-birthday pa ako," Yap said after his heroics allowed the Elasto Painters to keep first place in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

James' birthday is not until the 15th though and he says the actual birthday gift he wants is a championship with Rain or Shine.

Yap won two MVPs and seven titles with the Purefoods franchise, including the Grand Slam in 2014. Now, as he turns 37, he wants to help ROS capture its third PBA championship.

"Sa mag-champion kami," he said.

"[Manalo ng championship] as a Rain or Shine player naman," Yap added.
