The James Yap-Paul Lee duel finally came more than two years since the blockbuster trade that involved the two of them.

Yap takes this one.

The former two-time MVP saved Rain or Shine from an absolute collapse, nailing the game-winning free throw to beat Magnolia, 75-74, in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

Magnolia struck first as Paul Lee faked the life out of Gabe Norwood and hit a beautiful jumper to put the Hotshots up two, 74-72, with 6.1 seconds to go.

Rain or Shine then turned to James after the timeout and Yap faked both Rafi Reavis and Rome Dela Rosa before drilling his signature one-hand floater.

Yap was fouled too and he hit the marginal free throw for the Elasto Painters.

"I think the story of the game is simple. James Yap. Two big shots at the end. He just followed what we drew up, he trusted and he made the big shots. Tapos basically, we expected that Magnolia's gonna come out defensively like they used to. Both teams played good defense today," head coach Caloy Garcia said.

"But at the end of the day, we just hit the big shots. So let's keep it simple, it's just James Yap today," he added.

Yap scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and before his game-winning three-point play, he first hit a booming triple to force a 70-all tie with 1:15 remaining.

Big Game James finished with a game-high 18 points in 25 minutes, perfectly bouncing back from his two-point effort in his last outing.

Maverick Ahanmisi (13 points) and Norbert Torres (11 points) also hit double figures for the now 7-1 Elasto Painters.

Ian Sangalang and Mark Barroca each scored 16 points for the Hotshots while Robbie Herndon and Lee were good for 11 and 10 points respectively.

However, Magnolia still can't figure out the All-Filipino and the Hotshots dropped to 0-3 for the season.
