PBA: Chua says he was hit during crucial offensive foul

Easily the most controversial call of Wednesday’s Phoenix-Northport clash in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup was Sean Anthony’s offensive foul on Justin Chua in the final 47 seconds.

With the score tied at 96, Anthony went up to shoot a triple. It was good.

But as Anthony landed, Chua also went down. The refs blew their whistle and the call was an offensive foul on Anthony.

Shot does not count and the Fuel Masters ended up winning by two.

Replay showed that it was largely a clean play and that Chua may have been the one the committed a violation. Northport naturally argues that they just lost a four-point play, one that could have easily turned the game in their favor.

Nevertheless, the call was made and the Batang Pier lost.

Asked about his take on the matter, Chua says he felt a hit and so he went down.

It was definitely a huge play and Phoenix ended up the ones to cash in on it on the other end for the win.

“Kasi tabla yun di ba? Tapos possession namin naka-free throw kami. I guess you could say na breaks of the game napunta samin,” Chua said.

“Kasi kung di tumawag yung referee, pasok yung three points niya sila pa lamang,” he added.
