PBA: Calvin downplays first win over Alaska
Calvin did Calvin things, scoring 21 points on top of 16 rebounds in the win. He scored 3/4 triples and got to the line to take 14 shots, making eight of them.

Playing another game against his former team, Calvin Abueva overcome a slight case of food poisoning and went full Beast for the Phoenix Fuel Masters Friday in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

Abueva was dominant against Alaska, guiding Phoenix to a big win as the Fuel Masters punched their ticket to the playoffs and tied idle Rain or Shine for the best record in the All-Filipino at 7-1.

Calvin did Calvin things, scoring 21 points on top of 16 rebounds in the win. He scored 3/4 triples and got to the line to take 14 shots, making eight of them.

Still, Calvin insists he’s just dowing work and it’s nothing extra because it’s Alaska.

“Di naman, always ganado naman ako kahit kanino,” Abueva said.

“Ang akin lang, I do my work,” he added.

With Phoenix maintaining its spot at the top of the standings, Calvin says the goal now is to enter the quarterfinals as a top-2 seed.

That goal will be challenged as Phoenix moves on to the SMC part of its schedule. The Fuel Masters finish the elimination round against all three San Miguel teams.

“Sunud-sunod tong mga game, tatlong malalakas na team,” Abueva said.

“Di ka pwede mag-relax at kailangan namin tong mga panalo para makuha namin no. 1 or no. 2,” he added.
