PBA: Columbian holds on to beat Meralco in thriller
Holding on to a one-point lead, Columbian forced Meralco to two rushed shots in the latter’s final possession. Both shots hit nothing but iron and the Dyip arrested a three-game slide to start the second half of the All-Filipino.

All wins count for Columbian.

With the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup finally back in action, the Dyip are the first to register a win, picking an 86-85 decision over Meralco Wednesday at the Big Dome.

Erasing an early 15-point deficit, Columbian turned to Rashawn McCarthy for a scoring boost but it was the Dyip’s defense in the end that won it.

While the team is not quite back to .500 yet, Columbian has improved to 3-4 in the team standings.

“We’re a young team, hindi kami naka-recover sa mga talo namin. But It’s good start for us,” head coach Johnedel Cardel said.

“Becuase the last time we started, 0-6, 0-5. But this time, after the long break, we got to 2-4. Much better kasi may dalawang panalo,” he added.

McCarthy hit a booming triple to push the Dyip up six, 86-80, with 2:30 to go.

Chris Newsome then scored five straight for Meralco but as Columbian missed a handful of shots on their end, the Bolts failed to cash in during their last possession, missing two looks for the win.

McCarthy scored a career-high 30 for Columbian, 20 in the second half. Glenn Khobuntin added 14 poinstn for the Dyip.

Meralco got 17 points from Newsome and 14 apiece from Cliff Hodge and Ranidel De Ocampo. However, it was not enough for the Bolts to hold on to an early 15-point lead in the first half.

The Bolts dropped to 2-4 with back-to-back losses.
