PBA: Baser still clutch despite low shooting percentage

Baser dropped 21 points in the second half and overtime periods as Meralco beat Northport.
Regardless of how he’s playing for the game, Baser Amer is always going to be a weapon in the clutch for Meralco.
Amer proved that once again Friday in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, scoring 23 points for the Bolts in a double-overtime win against the Northport Batang Pier.
Baser dropped 21 points in the second half and overtime periods.
In the final five minutes, he put up eight straight for Meralco, including back-to-back triples, as the Bolts got the separation they needed to get the victory.
“Of course gusto ko lang mag-thank you kay coach Norman kasi binibigyan niya ako ng tiwala na kahit yung shooting ko masama, yung tiwala niya na nandoon ako sa loob para ma-lift ko yung team, nagpapa-salamat ako sa kanya,” Amer said.
“Kanina [during the second OT], siguro nabasa ko lang yung depensa ng kalaban. As a point guard, kailangan mo makita yun,” he added.
Even as he continues to struggle shooting the ball, Baser remains confident in his preparation as he tries to regain his touch during games.
Still, as he continues to shoot in the low 40s, Amer seems to connect when it counts for the Bolts.
At the end of the day, that’s all that matters anyway.
“Yung hard work ko sa practice. The last seven games namin, yung percentage ng shooting ko ang baba,” Amer said after he shot just 42 percent against the Batang Pier.
He’s shooting 40 percent for the season.
“Siguro yung hard work ko sa practice, nagpupunta ako ng maaga and stay ng late para lang mabalik yung kumpiyansa ko,” he added.
