PBA: Bolts staring at series of must-win games anew
After a tough double-overtime win over Northport, Meralco’s road to the Philippine Cup playoffs is about to get even tougher.

Meralco is back to an unwanted but familiar territory as it starts its playoff chase in a new PBA conference.

Losers of three straight, the Bolts were 2-5 entering Friday’s game against Northport in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

The Bolts needed two overtimes to pull off a win, pushing their record to 3-5 and their quest to finally return to the All-Filipino playoffs is officially on.

Meralco took the first game of what figures to be another set of must-win games.

“It's just a must-win situation for us. You can't go 2-6 and expect to make the playoffs,” head coach Norman Black said.

“We tried to stay in the hunt, we knew we had to win this game if we had any chance. If you talk about stress, there was a lot of stress there to be able to come up with the win,” he added.

After a tough double-overtime win over Northport, Meralco’s road to the Philippine Cup playoffs is about to get even tougher.

The Bolts will have a trio of contenders lined up to finish the elimination round. All are must-win of course.

“We have three tough games coming up against Rain or Shine, Alaska and Ginebra. The road's still gonna be very tough for us but at least it's the start. We talked about before the game that we needed a string of wins to try stay together in the playoff hunt so hopefully it began tonight,” Black said.

“This just gives us another chance to fight and live another day,” he added.
