PBA: Phoenix seals playoff ticket with big win over Alaska
The win pushed the Fuel Masters to the playoffs and they now tie Rain or Shine for the best record in the PBA with a 7-1 mark. The Elasto Painters hold the head-to-head tiebreak and maintain pole position.

Phoenix passes another test with flying colors.

The Fuel Masters were impressive Friday, dominating Alaska in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup for a 94-80 win at the MOA Arena.

Two days after a wild ending against Northport, Phoenix proved to be the sharper team over the Aces, leading by as many as 26 points in a total blowout.

The win pushed the Fuel Masters to the playoffs and they now tie Rain or Shine for the best record in the PBA with a 7-1 mark. The Elasto Painters hold the head-to-head tiebreak and maintain pole position.

“Big break. Wala si Vic Manuel, wala si Kevin Racal, so we faced a depleted team. It happened last game, wala si Stanley, but still, I give credit to my guys kahit na pagod na pagod from last game, still,” head coach Louie Alas said.

“Ang instruction ko nga sa kanila defensively is exempted kayo from pressuring full contact, but still they pressured. And that’s the main thing,” he added.

Calvin Abueva went full Beast against his former team, leading his new team with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Matthew Wright added 20 points on 50 percent shooting while another former Ace in RJ Jazul finished with 18.

Alaska got 23 from Jeron Teng but the team’s two-game winning streak came to an end.

Alaska dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
