ANTIPOLO CITY, RIZAL -- Best friends Raymar Jose and Roger Pogoy took their friendship to another level as the two figured in an 'unsportsmanlike' incident at the Ynares Center here.
Blackwater's Jose was thrown out of the game with 8:45 remaining in the fourth quarter as he was called for an alleged unsportsmanlike throw of the ball to TNT KaTropa Pogoy's face.
Pogoy had thrown down a rare dunk in the previous possession which pushed TNT's overflowing lead to 32, 104-72, but Jose inadvertenly threw his behind-the-back pass too high, which in return ricocheted off the guard's face.
The KaTropa eventually won in a record-setting game, 127-89, with Pogoy leading the way for the 5-3 KaTropa with his 28 points. His opponent meanwhile ended up with six markers.
Jose and Pogoy are of course brothers from Morayta as they played for FEU from 2012-15.
Explaining the incident, the burly big man was a bit surprised at the call, since he didn't really mean to hit his friend.
"Kasi dapat sa tiyan ko lang bibigay kasi nag-time out," said Jose. "Pagbigay ko sa kanya ng bola sa likod, umangat siguro, nakita ng referee. Kaya nagulat ako. Akala ko techinical lang," he told reporters.
During the interview, Pogoy emerged out of the locker room, which prompted laughs from the two of them and also led to Jose shouting at Pogoy.
"Oy Pogoy bayaran mo ['yung fine!]"
Even their former FEU team captain Mac Belo laughed and suggested Pogoy do pay the fine, but the sharpshooter was insistent Jose should so.
"Mas maraming pera yun, kaya na niya yun," Pogoy quipped.
