PBA: Magnolia beats Alaska for a much-needed win
Magnolia got the victory it sorely needed from the Aces, improving to 2-4 in the standings.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Some of that championship magic finally benefited Magnolia in the All-Filipino.

The Hotshots returned to the Ynares Center here, the site of their last championship, and beat the same team Saturday, scoring a 103-86 win over the Alaska Aces in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

Magnolia got the victory it sorely needed from the Aces, improving to 2-4 in the standings.

“Ang pinagusapan lang namin after that loss to Phoenix, medyo yung breaks of the game napunta sa kanila. Sabi ko sa mga bata, we have to adapt the playoff mentality. We need to have that sense of urgency, yung aming mindset, playoffs na,” head coach Chito Victolero said.

“Nag-start na yung aming run sa playoffs,” he added.

Magnolia certainly played like a playoff team against its Finals rivals, controlling the game from the second quarter onwards after a stalemate in the first 12 minutes of play.

The Hotshots eventually led by a many as 21, 101-80, after slowly pounding on the undermanned Aces.

Ian Sangalang was a force down low for Magnolia, leading the team with 24 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists.

Paul Lee came off the bench and added 20 points while Mark Barroca finished with 19.

Alaska got 26 from Chris Banchero, 21 in the first half, and another 17 from Jeron Teng.

The Aces dropped to 3-3 for the year with the loss.
