At 3-5, NLEX is still pretty much alive in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
After a breakthrough semifinal appearance in the All-Filipino last year, NLEX is scrambling just to make the playoffs of the Philippine Cup this year.
Nevertheless, all hope is not lost for the Road Warriors and they took a step in the right direction Wednesday by snapping a two-game slide.
NLEX demolished Alaska and improved to 3-5 in the team standings.
Despite the below .500 record, the Road Warriors are still pretty much in control of their own destiny and they have three games left to try and steal a playoff spot as one of the lower seeds.
“Today’s game could be a good sign because we need to win the next three games,” head coach Yeng Guiao said after beating Alaska.
“We need this confidence boost to be able to have a good chance at a win,” he added.
NLEX has gone through a lot so far this season and that’s not even counting the team’s slow start for the year.
The Road Warriors had to deal with guard Kevin Alas suffering another ACL injury plus the fact that Guiao and star center Poy Erram had to fulfill their duties to the national team.
“We were probably distracted as a team,” Guiao said.
“All the things going on around us, and this is a good sign that we're getting back our focus. This is a good sign for the team in general,” he added.
