It’s almost impossible to ignore because it’s all over Instagram.

San Miguel shooters Terrence Romeo, Alex Cabagnot, Paul Zamar, and Von Pessumal are in a fierce battle royal. The mechanics? Outshoot everyone after practice.

The prize? A pretty WWE Championship belt.

Well, it’s not the exact replica, it’s just a toy. But it looks nice and everyone wants it so yeah.

“Nagsimula kasi yun, competition lang kami na three-point shootout,” guard Paul Zamar told ABS-CBN Sports.

“Si Alex, ako, si Von, and then si Terrence sumali na nung kalagitnaan na. Ano lang to, healthy competition para ma-improve din yung shooting ability namin, concentration, and most importantly maging fun yung practice para samin,” he added.

That’s sounds wholesome enough but eventually, all four shooters agreed upon the idea to have something physical to mark every win.

That something physical was the WWE Championship because why not.

“Actually, idea to ni Von. So nag-chip in lang kami para mabili yung belt,” Zamar said.

“Para may bragging rights lang kami everyday. Winningest so far si Terrence, tapos tie kami ni Alex [for second place]. Almost every day may champion na panibago pero lately, mainit si Terrence eh, kaya sa game mainit din siya,” he added.

Zamar talked about San Miguel’s Royal Rumble after the four-time champion Beermen won a fourth straight Philippine Cup game against Northport at the Big Dome.

There, WWE Champion Terrence Romeo was the chief backup for five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo. Romeo, who’s playing his first conference with San Miguel, fired 23 points.

“Sumali lang ako, kasi healthy competition eh. Kasi yung focus mo talaga magi-improve. Kasi may pressure yung game eh,” Romeo said.

As he goes through the motions of being a member of the loaded San Miguel team, activities like competing for a toy belt after practice has helped Romeo fit in better and faster with the Beermen.

“Malaking bagay, kasi bukod na nakakakuha kami ng chemistry, at the same time healthy competition yung nangyayari,” he added.

It could be some good old healthy competition but at the end of the day, four great shooters are still competing.

That means three would end up losing. Terrence hasn’t done much losing lately.

“Kailangan talaga protektahan yung belt,” Romeo told ABS-CBN Sports.

“Kailangan ko siya protektahan lalo na kay kuya Alex. Ako champion dun, nine-time. Bawi sila sa next practice,” he added.
