PBA: ROS survives Meralco to make play for top-2 finish
ROS arrested a two-game slide and ended the elimination round with an 8-3 record. Whether or not thatís good enough for a top-2 finish remains to be seen.

Rain or Shine has a long break before the playoffs but they will enter the quarterfinals armed with a win.

The Elasto Painters managed to hold on for the victory against Meralco, taking an 88-85 decision Friday in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.

ROS arrested a two-game slide and ended the elimination round with an 8-3 record. Whether or not that’s good enough for a top-2 finish remains to be seen.

Still, the Elasto Painters have done their part and will now await their next opponent in the quarterfinals.

Despite struggling from the free throw line late, ROS got two to go for an 87-85 lead with about six seconds to go.

The Elasto Painters then watched Baser Amer miss an open three from the top of the key on the other end and ROS wrapped up the victory with another split free throws from Beau Belga.

James Yap was the high man for Rain or Shine with 14 points followed by 12 from Ed Daquioag. Maverick Ahanmisi and Javee Mocon added 10 each.

For the Bolts, Nico Salva and Reynel Hugnatan scored 18 and 16 points respectively.

Meralco dropped to 3-6 with the loss.

Meralco 85 - Salva 18, Hugnatan 16, Faundo 10, Amer 10, Hodge 8, Newsome 7, Canaleta 7, Jackson 7, Quinto 2, Pinto 0, Tolomia 0.

Quarters: 20-26, 44-35, 66-65, 88-85.
