PBA: Compton on big win: “Kung natalo kami... Boracay na”
If the Aces were to sneak in the playoffs, or at least have a fighting chance, the victory against the Bolts could prove to be the most crucial.

Alaska badly needed a win.

Going through an ugly three-game losing skid, the Aces were out of the playoff picture in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

That changed Wednesday as Alaska shut down Meralco, improving to 4-5 in the standings to get back in the top-8, at least for the meantime.

If the Aces were to sneak in the playoffs, or at least have a fighting chance, the victory against the Bolts could prove to be the most crucial.

“It’s a huge win for us, honestly,” head coach Alex Compton said as his team pulled off a 92-77 decision.

“Kung natalo kami kanina, baka ano... Boracay na tayong lahat,” he added.

After a Finals run in the 2018 Governors’ Cup, the Aces have struggled quite a bit in the All-Filipino.

Injuries have been a huge part of that and against the Bolts, Alaska welcomed back a couple of key players in JVee Casio and Kevin Racal.

Little by little, the Aces are getting the whole crew back.

“It’s nice to have JVee and Kevin back, they’re obviously a little rusty and out of shape but I thought they made some plays,” Compton said.

One key player Alaska is still waiting on is Vic Manuel. However, he’s not about to return anytime soon.

“We’ll see how it develops,” Compton said of Manuel.

“He does rehab stuff. He’s doing individual [workouts] but he’s not yet cleared for full practice,” he added.
